Exmouth United Reds start season with an impressive 5-1 victory

A great performance in their first League match saw the Under-11s Exmouth United Girls 'Reds' team gain a victory against a determined Starcross side.

First half showcased some some strong defending from Exmouth's Charlotte, Esme and Lucy D and some great saves by 'keeper Phoebe. Early attempts were made on goal by Em & Elisa, and although these were not successful, the team kept putting pressure on the opposition.

The first goal was scored by Lucy S, after some great set up play from Lara, putting the home team ahead.

This goal was followed closely by another strong shot by Elisa, just over the top of the bar, before United doubled their lead through Em.

Exmouth continued well with Izzy and Isla running strongly with the ball and further attempts on goal by Izzy, Belle & Isla. Strong team work and passing through the midfield enabled the next goal to be scored by Bells (set up by Isla) making it 3-0 at half-time.

In the 2nd half there were several further attempts on target by Em, Eliza and Izzy, with Charlotte, Lara & Eliza working together well in the build up, while Phoebe made several excellent saves despite at one point being very crowded by the opposition.

After the drinks break, a goal from Starcross took the score to 3-1, but Exmouth were not put off their stride when Starcross had a period of increased possession. Despite several attempts by the opposition to reclaim the ball, a determined effort from Emily enabled her to secure the team an excellent fourth goal.

This was soon followed by Bell's second goal of the match, after a period of strong possession, giving the Reds a very well deserved 5-1 win.

The team were strong throughout, with great tackling and defending by Charlotte, Esme & Lucy D and ongoing determined saves by Phoebe. Team manager Andrew Bush was over the moon with the work rate & performance.

All the girls gave a dedicated performance and showed commitment on the pitch, despite the hot conditions. They worked fantastically well together to create many opportunities, which were backed-up by resolute defence.
